This practical, information packed 2 part workshop series will answer all the questions you have about good gut health, from disease prevention to disease intervention.
You’ll learn all about good gut micro-organisms and how to replenish your own micro-biome with a diverse range of foods including an array of healthy bacteria and yeasts. You’ll take home 4 fermented food & beverages complete with recipes and SCOBYs (your new pets.) AND you’ll develop the skills to make them yourself at a fraction of the cost of commercial products and literally save $1000s over your lifetime. You’ll be invited to join our exclusive Sydney Fermentos’ facebook page for troubleshooting, recipe ideas and sharing your fermenting journey with fellow fermentos.
You will walk away with a head full of knowledge, all the science truths presented and all the myths debunked.
In the first workshop you’ll learn about the importance of good gut health and the foods and beverages that can help you maintain or attain it. You will learn about anaerobic and aerobic processes involved in fermenting foods, hygiene and safety. We will start our fermented foods journey with culturing vegetables and make from scratch your own take home batches of Sauerkraut and Kimchi. You’ll leave with recipes and flavouring tips that you can apply to many other vegetables ferments. You’ll have a week or 2 to digest this information and then you’re back for more.
The second workshop introduces you to Symbiotic cultures of bacteria and yeast. These are the cultures used for milk kefir, water kefir and Kombucha. You’ll learn and make all 3 of these gems and take home batches with SCOBYs for your own beverage start ups that you can then apply to coconut water, nut milks and more. You’ll learn about second ferments and flavour enhancement. Again we’ll talk recipes including Kombucha marinated chicken, Raspberry milk kefir, Passionfruit Kombucha, Ginger kefir, tempeh and sauerkraut Sang Choy bau and more.
You do not need to buy special equipment to get started. You may choose to later but I can show you how to make a brilliant sauerkraut crock from a yoghurt container and a $4 air lock. The bevvies can be brewed in jars and stored in clean wine bottles.
Poor gut health has been linked to a plethora of uncomfortable conditions from bloating and gas, chronic diarrhoea and constipation to intestinal permeability and pathogenic overgrowth such as Candida Albicans and Blasto Hominis. More recently chronic inflammation, brain fog, depression, overweight and diabetes, ulcerative colitis and other auto immune disease have been linked to poor gut health. The good news is that our guts are reactive and our micro biome can be changed quite simply by changing our diets.
Fermented foods are "on trend" right now and for good reason - a healthy gut with a diverse array of micro-organisms can certainly help to keep you in tip top shape.
Commercialisation of fermented foods has made them available to many more people but you’d be forgiven for borking at the price tags.
Kombucha $7.50 for 750ml
Sauerkraut $17 for 680g or (500g for $21)
Kefir $11 for 375ml
